Hi, everybody

Here I am, another "rampant" English teacher. I'd be very pleased to talk with you.

First I'll introduce myself : As I said, I am an English teacher, I work with students who want to get their PA diploma. I'm a woman -despite my pseudo- and I have a son who is fifteen years old. He finds high school very hard. He prefers reading science fiction and fantasy, or watching films : as he watches all his favourite movies in English, he has become good at English -without working really hard. But we have had to find a teacher to help him with his maths.
We have three dogs and two cats -we live in a house in the country. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy too. I like it because I find it relaxing.I don't have a lot of free time, but when I can, I go running.

If you want to keep on talking, go ahead. Tell me if you want me to correct any mistakes. If not, let's just talk for fun. :wink2:

Hello Wizard, welcome in this topic !

You seems to love pets, don't you ! :chessy:
what kind of dog have you got ? Are they big or small ? For my own, i prefer big dogs as Doberman (but that's a long long and sad story ).

Well, for you son, you know, at fifteen yo, you always think that high school is too hard and that teachers are crazy ! lol ! it's so a common thing... But if you think he really need a private teacher...

well, let me introduce myself, i'm Nessscafe, 21 yo, i try to obtain my PA's diploma (in june, oh my god, we are nearly there !!!!). I looooooooooooooove cinema, watching movies, all kind of movies (that's depending of my mood... - humeur). I like drawing, reading and writing.

I don't have any pet, because of my parents : they hate them (or maybe they're frightened by them...). But, when i will have my own appartment, at the start i'll buy a cat, later, a dog...

see you soon, teacher ! :wink2:

Hello Nesscafe

What about a nice cup of tea ?

Well I don't really own all of these pets. In fact were are sharing a rather big house, so the dogs aren't mine. There is a golden retriever and two mongrel dogs. I used to have a whippet, but he was killed  That's a very sad story. (Perhaps like your Dobermann's ?)

yes, my son does need a maths teacher, because he wants to go into a scientific section.... and -you know what ?- that's just because he so much loves movies that he would like to work in this field later. But you have to have done a lot of maths and physics to go on with cinema studies. Quite stupid, isn't it ? At present he does the cinema option : he gets up at six o'clock every Saturday morning just for that.

I see that you are a great cinema lover, and that you write on a website. Maybe I'll find time to go and have a look there. What is the latest movie that you liked best ? Last week we watched "Saving private Ryan". I liked it, although I don't like war movies in general : but it is a Spielberg film, so it's different from what we usually see.

So, you have your exam in June. It's not so terrible, is it ? Are you afraid because there are some subjects that you don't master ?

Perhaps your parents don't like pets because of the work it would give them... tidying around and so on... maybe your Mum can't stand it when there are dog hairs and paw marks everywhere. Anyway, you don't have to buy a cat or a dog. There are so many of them wanting to be adopted, don't you think so ?

Well... let's get back to work.... marking assignments :tickedoff:

Nessscafe : it's only a joke, i don't like coffee but i love tea (russian teas are the best !).

Happyly for you son, he finds which studies could bring him to the job he want. Not as myself, i waited, and i waited and i waited... and now, i think it's to late... If i had known before what i got to do, i'm sure i won't be here today  but who knows ?

i always complain myself about that, i'm sorry.

Well, your soon seems to have found his way...

The last movie i saw and i loved (and still love) is King Kong. It was so intense, full of emotions, during three hours. I really like it. That's why i love cinema, during one hour and a half, at least, you can travel, imagine and dream, you can forget the present days, your life, etc... That's so great :chessy:

Concerning my exam, well i'm not very confident. I used to pass my exam successfully, without working a lot, and now, i see that things have to change... It's more difficult than it seems to be.

Concerning pets, to adopt a cat why not  only if he's or she's cute !

to conclude, i have a question : what did you mean by "marking assignments" ?

don't hesitate to correct me. :wink2:

I'm back !

Well, your English is good. You make some mistakes, but I wonder : would it be good to correct ?    I'm not that keen on feeling like a teacher (tonignt anyway)

For my son : he didn't really find anything. You know, he is a typical 15-year old. Very nice, but.... 15 years old ! I just thought of giving him some idea of what he could do later, as he is so crazy about movies and cinema-making. But anyway, I wonder if he could study in this field after his A level. There are few schools, and they are private (and expensive). When I told him about cinema studies he just said (I quote) "Humpf....... ouais..... pourquoi pô....". You see, that kind of things...

You say that you regret having waited without making a choice. Don't you think that we ask kids to make definite choices about their future too early in life ? As for you, you are young. Perhaps you don't really like the studies for becoming a PA. However, you have so many years before you. I just did the same as you when I was your age. I first attended University for one year (English studies), but then I gave up. Then I lazied around for a while, up to the time when I had to go in for a vocational training as..... a PA   I worked as a temp for some years, but in the end I got fed up with it and I went back to University (working part time to make ends meet). So, you see...

I didn't see King Kong because I don't like the story. I know the film is very good. Anyway, I'll buy the DVD (I will have to)

Marking assignments : noter des devoirs (here : a lot of recordings)

See you

Hello,

I think it's a good idea to correct me, because i could see what are my mistakes... As you want. At my workplace, i can't use dictionnary and i prefer do not use ones which are on internet...

About school and cinema studies, you know what ?
Just when you want to do a job which is connected with some kind of art, you HAVE TO PAY !!! It'like that, i saw it. Public art school give, for my own opinion, a training too much traditionnal and classical. For example, Duperre is a public school giving a training in order to be stylist (as they say...). In their programme, there is no connection with professionnal world, professionnal matters or something. They is mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology... (that's awful for me !).

The biggest advantage for the private school is that all their trainings turn around the job you want to do, and only this ! But, yes, as you said, it's too expensive : 5000 ¤ at least for a good school. Because you HAVE TO choose a good school, it's better on your resume...

ironic, isn't it ?

Your background is interesting. That something i have noticed among trainers out of National Education : they always have a background full of different (and strange) experiences ! Not like teachers in college or highschool. Usually, they all have the same : university, iufm... teachers.

that's sad.

Actually, i still don't really know what i'm gonna do after my exam. It's very frightened, you know. When you're 21, okay, you have plenty of years in front of you, you can change, do some mistake, but this perspective is scaring. It's important for me to know where i'm going, what i will do... I hate this state of mind, when all is unclear and when you have the impression to walk on the wrong way...

Scaring. Scaring. Scaring.

So, maybe - i'm sure - you're right, when i will be older, i'll look at the years spent and i'll laugh...

When you were 20, did you already know what you wanted to do exactly ?
and are you happy now ?

Hello

OK to correct you, but I'm sorry, there aren't many mistakes in your post :wink2:
A small defect : I. You type "i".
I could see what my mistakes are.
It's like that (it must be a typing mistake)
in my opinion
a traing which is too traditional and classical.
To be a + noms de métiers
Programme (scolaire) : curriculum / syllabus
the professional life (parce que "life" est ciblé par l'adjectif)
no connection with....... or anything. (à cause de "no")
There are maths, physics....
the biggest advantage of privates schools...
"résumé" is OK, but not "resume" qui est un verbe (recommencer)
That is something....
Not like the teachers in high schools (but not "colleges" : college=faculté)
It's very frightening.
mistakes (pluarl)
when you are under the impression that you are walking on the wrong way.
when I am older, I will look at the years ... (présent dans la subordonnée de temps)
Ah! And yes : avoid "public school" (because of the Briths public schools which are private). Use state schools.

Now, to answer you about your anxiety for your future. I think it's quite natural. Look at the world we live in... it didn't use to be the same when I was your age. In fact, we were rather careless about professional life as there wasn't the problem of umemployment yet.

As for saying wether I am happy :  But anyway, I do my best !

See you.

Hello

Sorry I didn't read the whole post but only the last page and I decided to join in...
I don't really have problems in English but just like Nessscafe I am lost... I like what I am studying but I still don't know what I want to do with my life and more importantly what are the possibilities  :arrow2:
Just so you know I am also 21 and I belive that at our age we do not know all the possibilities the world offers us so how can we make a choice??
I hate not knowing where I am going because I have no goals and therefore no real ambition... I do have one the BTS but for what... since I dont know what to do after it...
But anyways I have always been really lucky in life so I need to stop worrying but its hard because I'd like to find my way... just like everyone else

The school pa's told me something one day. She thinks we all have a way to do. If you have to do something of your life (become lawyer or teacher or...) you WILL do it. Whatever the ways you take.

she means, when she was young, she wanted to do a social job in order to help people and to make the things go better. She had her a level, she went to college and made a "Deug" of theater... after that, she moved on in the south of france, then she worked in a school, so on...
and now, she worked into my school and she's very helpful. Somewhere, it's very close from what she wanted to do when she was younger, isn't it ?

that's why i agree with her. maybe today we're not able to see objectively what we're actually doing.

i mean, the main goal we have to realize is to be happy in our lives. what i write, right now, seems very new age or naive. But i'm convinced that if we find the balance between our dreams and our reality, we'll inevitably be happy.

the happyness, this feeling, is something very important for me, as you can see. maybe because this feeling is still unknown for my own...

I totally agree with you Nessscafe thats what my mom told me that everything will come when it is suposed to and that I will for sure become what I want to become...
As for happyness "Hell Yes" thats true as long as you are happy the rest does not mater... I consider myself very lucky because I've always had what I wanted and I've had a wonderfull life so far... the only reason I am trying to do something good with my life is for my mom because she has done everything for us and I'd like to give it back to her :wub :wub :wub

Hello Tom Ford

I found what you said about your mother so moving. I have a son, as I told Nesscafe before, sometimes we clash a bit, it is not always easy, especially when you are divorced. But I am sure that he loves his Mum even if he doesn't always come up to my expectaions.

I found you a bit disoriented but it is difficult to find really valuable goals, particularly nowadays. I think that the people of my generation were, in a way, happier than you are, because we used to think that the world could be improved, and that each one of us could take hir or her small part in this improvment. But today, I think the grown ups don't give a good image of life. Idealism is scorned, so we bring up our childrenc with only materialistic and individualistic values : be the best at school, be the best at sports, and so on. We have only one religion : our own small person (keeping our bodies young, not smoking, practising sports, eand so on...). But, what for ? is it what the human being is supposed to be ? Just a well-trained, performing machine ?

Forgive me if I sound a bit mystical or religious, or political, or whatever. I do hope that fortunately, there are still and there always be people like you, who want to use their brains, and their hearts.

Well, philosophy is over for tonight

See you.

Hello Wizard

I am glad to see that some people think like me on this planet but you are right most people just think about their own ass and it is quite sad...
I traveled quite a lot and it did change my personality, I've lived in the US and Germany and I have to say that even though americans are not the best persons on the planet they do have some things that I like in their culture like the fact that everything at school is done for them to be able to have other activities like sports or theater (ok that was maybe only where I lived) but people helped each other and it was the same in germany (well not the germans but the people I was in school with)...
Here in France everything is different first when you help someone or you are nice with them they think that there must be something wrong and that you cant just be nice to be nice... it always has to hide something...
anyways I try to do my best at helping the people I can but saddly I cant help the whole world

As for your son my parents also divorsed when I was 6 and it didnt change anything for me  I am sure he loves you a lot but he is a boy and it is sometimes harder for them to show it

And there are people on this planet that try to make things right more then we think or at least most people my age that I speak to think the same and are trying not to be so individualist...

:wub

i completly agree !!!!!
i have finally found people who think like me :chessy: !

i've got a friend who is a bit desoriented too. He recently realized he doesn't love his life as she actually is. He resigned from his job and now he's thinking about what he's gonna do.
well, but we don't see the things in the same way... He still thinks he have to earn a lot of money, whatever the job he will choose.

well, okay, to be well-paid it's important in order to live comfortably, to have our own house, our own car, and so on... in order to raise kids up... that's great.

I have a different vision about money. When i was kid, my parents were wealthy... not very rich at billions, but we weren't in the need. Maybe it's because i didn't have a happy childhood, consequently, i can't associate money and happyness.

Money is made to be spent ! I save some money too, because i don't know what can happen...

when i was child, my mother always asked me "would you like to be doctor or lawyer ?", and i kept saying "no !". my mother always placed her hopes in me, because we're 4 brothers and sister. Only my sis and I have our A Level, and i'm the one who have continued my studies. my mother still hopes i will make a great career... of lawyer !!!!

I know that career and money are two important things in our lives, but that's not my first goal. I just want to do something i like, to become me, to live... after i'll see.

I know that it really seems naive, maybe most of you're thinking "you see when you'll have your first bills !", but don't worry for me, i know how life can be difficult. Two years ago, i had to live in the streets, nearly like a tramp - well i lived among them. Now i just want to have a good life, no matter if i'll have problems of money or else.

Now, i'm working in a field which don't please me. I'm sitted down a comfortable chair, into a big firm but i spend my days on the internet, especially here  !! Sometimes, i have some work to do, but not very important or i let it on my desk until it will become an emergency !
But it's not for me ! :chessy: i'm not able to imagine me in twenty or thirty years doing exactly what i'm doing today ! Or i'll be surely crazy...

i'm sure of one thing : money can't get you happy.

that remembers me something i saw on tv. It's was a woman and her family. She was farmer, living in the country and raising cows. it was evident that she and her husband weren't really wealthy but i saw family full of love and happyness. This is what i missed, probably, i want to recreate this.

i hope i didn't make enormous mistake, i typed very quickly.

I agree to evrything you said as you are right money doesn't make you happy what so ever... :wink2:
You do need money to live but I think like you I'd rather have a job that I enjoy and for which I am happy to get up in the morning rather then be well paied and feeling sick every morning because you really don't want to go to work...
Life is to short and you do not know what will happen the next day so you have to live your life now not later...
Like Bernard Werber said in one of his book people try to make their life less miserable instead of trying to bring happyness into their lives...
For your work I am just like you I work in a really big firm but with a lunatic boss who started giving me work now that I have my exams coming up... :tickedoff:  :knuppel:
But I dont quite care since I am planning on finishing up the PDUC project and then I quite  and live them with their shit (sorry but I am going mad I cant stand his attitude any more). I do a lot of work and nothing is considered so now I quite I dont see why I would give my best for a @"#*¤..@ who speaks to me like he does.... :tickedoff:

Anyways I hope that when I am done with my studies I will find something I like :wub and I whish you the same a job you enjoy, love and happyness :wink2:

Hello, Tom Ford and Nesscafe

I'm sorry I didn't answer your posts, but I couldn't find anything to say because I basically agree with both of you.

Nevermind, this thread is a good one, don't you think so ?

Perhaps we could launch another topic in English an other people might join in. So, what would you like to talk about ?

Have a nice day.

Hi tinoa!

I heard that some of student associations proposed american stays to take the level (bac aux USA) for young french who obtained a french level. I am very interesting by these offers but theirs prices are extremely expensive. (about 30 000¤ for the year)  How did you go to USA, what was the association?

Did you like USA, the customs, the atmosphere in high schools? Would you like to go back?

Thanks for your answer!

Hello,

Iwent to the USA by an association and it was very very expensive!!!
I didn't really like my life there but it was because I didn't like my host-family. I tried to change but the association said it was my fault!!! NICE
I met good friends, i was happy to be with them when i felt homesick!
I would like to go back but not in a host-family, for holidays and with my boyfriend.
That was a really good experience but it was really hard, i was ofetn homesick!

Hi, everybody

I see that the thread has started again, that's nice. I've read your posts. If don't mind, I will give you some advice underneath :

- BTS : doesn't exist in the USA or GB. You can use : "two-year post A-level vocational training/diploma".
- Je suis intéressée : I am interested in.
- advice (uncountable) : some advice / a piece of advice (for "un conseil")

Well, that's all folks.

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday. As for me : working,  tidying up, and helping my son a bit with his French (preparing an essay about Bel Ami by Maupassant..   He prefers Fantassy and Science Fiction...)
