it's my turn.... then i'm 23 years old and i live in the south of france. i think it was a very good idea to open this topic. i'll go in USA in january in an "au pair family", i'd like to go in san francisco, but i think i'd better stop dreaming, it's very difficult to choose the town (maybe i'll see you racoon  ) as you can read, i better speak english than i write. that's why i'm glad to improve my writing here.

If you come in the bay area, I will be glad to see you topaziane ;)

Tony> Why don't you talk in English in this topic? Anyway, the purpose of this topic is to improve our English, it means that any way can be helpful for that, even talking about movies. I don't know why it bothers you... the topic is useful to practice our English, not for the contents...

Tony - I am totally with Racoon here. Yeah so what, I started talking about a movie. Did you actually understand what was being said? Maybe you need to re-read what I had wrote. I was saying that even after 2 years in France I still find it difficult in some cases to understand French films (for example last night at the movies I saw Iznogoud and understood hardly anything!).

I was not trying to start a conversation on how good Michael Youn is, or is not, or any of the other crap that I could easily do with other English speaking friends on a chat. So before getting on a high horse maybe you should have tried to understand. Whatsmore - wouldn't it have been more considerate for others on this thread to have written in English seeing as they are all making the effort?

Thanks (and if I am being overly exagerated then just tell me, but personally I don't think I am).

Maybe Tony felt hurted because his english is very poor

I don't see Iznogood, but, melboi, it's a king of french teen movie, you know. It's not a very serious movie. Why don't you see american movie in french ? Does the difference disrupt you ?

My problem in English is that I understand all that an english say but I have hard difficulties to speak in english because my vocabulary & my granmar are very restricted !!

crap = nul

The film is crap - le film est nul

RDT : Vocabular and grammar just come with practice. You can read all the grammar books you like but nothing compares to actually speaking the language. I have found, more often than not, that the grammar taught in the books is not the way that people speak today - even in professional settings. I am not saying that having the basics is not a good thing, of course without having studied French at school I would have had no idea how to conjugate verbs!! but it is not the be all and end all. The main thing is being able to communicate.

I prefer to see English films in English - although I no longer live in Paris so my choice is kind of restricted!! They don't seem to play many English films here in Charente Maritime!!
It doesn't bother me to see English films in French - it's great practice for my French. But I get to speak French all day, and work on my French with the BTS so when I go to chill out I prefer to do so with an English film where I don't really have to concentrate all that much :D

It's great ! This topic is getting long ! And you can even settle a score with somebody in English. That's a good thing, in my opinion !
At school I was just so bad in English. I didn't like this language at all and I felt so stupid when I was trying to get the accent. And, when I arrived in Ireland, I could just say "hello, my name is Emilie" with a very strong french accent  ! And, strangely, I got better very fast. Because as soon as I learnt a new word or a new expresion, I used it, all the day long, in order to remember it. You understand what I mean ? So, first I could't talk with anybody (in addition, the irish accent is very hard and I couldn't even understand them  !!!), and few months later, I was able to have a conversation ! I was so proud ! :D
That's my story ! I say it again, but it's really a pity because I've lost a lot and it's not that easy for me to have a conversation ! But anyway, it's not as bad as in spanish...oïch...
Well, that's all folks !
See ya !

See you

Tony & miss> you are useless

Melboi> That's normal that you don't understand Youn's movies. This kind of movie is based on French riddles. I would not be able to understand this kind of movie if I have to watch it in English. And like you I also prefer to watch American movies in English ;)

In fact, i think they didn't UNDERSTAND the last message of melboi
I'm a little ashamed, because i've just visited the SILC website, and i made their test and i had 5  !!! (5 on what, that's the question  ). I'm little desappointed because i always have a good level at school and i can stand a conversation...

If you are talking about me, for the story of movies, i didn't read what she writed so i don't know what she was talking about. I just answered to tony who thought it was not a good idea to speak in english here. Do you understand?
I don't want to introduce myself, because I don't know what to say, and i have already my diploma  I've 18 in my english test, so don't say that i don't understand english
It's my favorite language, all my musics are from US. I just have a problem to listen an english speaking but i can understand a text and interpreted it. I'm trying to improve my english oral by watching movies in english
I want to say that i have written without any dictionnary
correct me i if have make a mistake

Hum...are you sure you got 18?? You don't wanna talk in English here? Fine! Why are you here anyway?? Why are you wasting your time? :?:

J'ai pas voulu te demolir et je suis desolee si tu l'as mal pris (Shame on me!!! :( )
