I don't know the exact translation of "en alternance" but I think that "work-based learning" could be suitable for it.

Moreover, to translate "BTS" you could say either "advanced vocational diploma" or "vocational training certificate", I found the translation in a book I bought during my studies, "Guide de la Communication Professionnelle - Anglais, Casteila, D. Heyte".

This book helped me during my studies and currently I always use it sometimes .
I did a BTS AST and since July 2007 I am a Personal Assistant in a French-Yemeni company in Yemen.
Bts is HND which stands for Higner National Diploma. The dictionnary has the wrong translation. :wink2:

I know that HDN means BTS but in my school book there are 2 other translations... It's not in a dictionary, so I think it's right too.. :wink2:

At school, I have learned "two-year professional training course" as a translation of "BTS" :pascompris;

School is school. The two years VOCATIONAL training in the uk are either a foundation degree or higher national diploma. You can check out on internet if you don't believe me.

During my studies my English teacher said to write "2-year training course in Languages and Office Techniques (equivalent of H. D. N.)"
So it's also a possibility.

At school, we learned that "BTS" could be translate by "vocational training certificate" ... :wacko:

Of course it's a good translation. I don't know why RV told me that it's wrong ! :pascompris;

Hey, keep cool with me :knuppel:

"Me" just asked for the translation of "BTS" in English. We give her all the translations we have. And, apparently, there are lots. So you probably do not have the real one.

I know that the working life and the school are different but are you really sure that it's wrong?

In fact, the book is really good and it would be strange that they made such a mistake...

Hey, keep cool with me :knuppel: I did not say you were wrong, I just said what I learned at school.
I got your point. I'm tryin' to help in here. It's up to you. If you come over and you say, I hold a two year vocational training certificate, it will be fine. But, know that in the UK the Bts equals the HND or foundation degree.

It's not a mistake, it's just better to say I've got a two years vocational training certificate which equals the HND you offer in Britain as simple as that. Dunno about the books in France.

Ok. I think you're right.
Indeed, on my CV I wrote "two years vocational training certificate (equivalent of the HND)".

And I just thought that the other translations could be helpful if someone don't try to translate it.. That's all. :wink2:

Ok. No problem. But I haven't my resume here (I am working and my resume is on my "usb key" at home).

I will send it to you in a personal message tomorrow, perhaps you could correct me if there are some mistakes on my resume. ;)

I am working as a Personal Assistant in a French-Yemeni company which is a Wireless Applications Service Provider in Yemen and in the Middle East Region.
So to speak it is a mobile technology company.

Do you enjoy it. By the way, what the hell are you doing in Yemen? Is this a work placement or somethin'

"Personal Assistant". I have no clue. I mean, what kind of duty you gotta do?
Do you like it? Is that what you expected from this job?

I went in Yemen because my boyfriend went here to do his work placement from March to September. So when I finished my studies at the end of June I went here. Moreover, I was very lucky because my boyfriend found me a job.

"Personal Assistant" means to do classical secretarial tasks, I write and send mails, I set up the appointments, I screen the calls, I make out reports, I file papers and documents, I manage the diary and organize the travel arrangements, I manage the time of the CEO and so on and so forth...

I like this job but it's not well-paid and I expected to have more responsibilities...

Ok TO GO IN PARIS, TO GO TO FRANCE. :wink2:

I see, you're secretary. You gained some experience if come in the Uk you'll probably get a job easier and faster than if you come back in France. Sounds weird but according to some testomonies it's unfortunately true. On the other hand, in the UK your purchasing power will be shit. I can tell you. Don't except to have a high salary. A graduate earn in inner greater london around 20 k. Believe me. It's not that much. Cos everything is overpriced.

I know that I can't be too demanding in term of salary but actually I just earn 355 euros and I worked during 9-10 hours by day (so between 45 and 50 hours by week).

Consequently, I hope to have a salary a little bit higher. I have to discuss about that with my boss before the end of the week.
Indeed, I found another job, it's not in the same field but it's really well-paid (800 euros) and the working hours are from 8.00 to 13.35...

But I don't know what I should do because my job gives me some experience in a field I really enjoy.

Furthermore, I did a work placement in Ipswich (in the Suffolk) last year and I know that the life is very expensive in England :wink2: but it was a very interesting stay and I met very nice people there.
