Hi from Chicago, Windy City where fun never ends! I'm here since August 20th and I'm staying here until next August as an Au Pair. This is such a great experience and I'm so proud of myself to do that kind of job! Chicago is a beautiful city and I'm really happy to be there! :dacc:

The kids are really nice, the oldest which is 5,5 is going to school from 8 to 3pm so I'm pretty busy with the youngest who is 1,5 and he's a cutie pie!! I know that I don't have to say that but he's my favourite one  :wub
BTW my host mum is pregnant : SURPRIIIIIIIIISE at the airport yeah baby. The baby will be due next February so there will be 3 kids. But hopefully my first week of vacation will be before the BIG RUSH haha!

Because me too I had a transit in Bangkok but I didn't want to stay a couples days there because I was a bit scared to be alone in Thailand... :unsure: (and especially for a single lady)
But I am sure it is a nice country to discover but... with friends. :friend:

Yes, reading in English is good but you should start with some easy books for children.
After, you could take some English lessons in a foreign international school (you should find it in Paris, all depend where you live)
For the rest... I don't know. For me the best solution was to work in a foreign country for 10 months in 2 years.

You should go to "la fnac" and buy "Pinguins books collection".
This is a book with different reading level. (easy, intermediate, higher) and a different vocabulary by level.
I have known this book in England when I was at school over there, I started to learn with this one and there are good.
There is different story so good like "Nothing Hill" Lords of the rings" "Miserable" and etc...
Trust me, it is easy to understand and you feel so proud of you when your book is finished and you understood everything!

I think watching movies in English with english subtitles is also a good way to improve your english! I provides you some vocabulary and helps to get a better understanding of the accent!

It's a good idea but I'm afraid not to suceed concentrate on a fim in english

For the movies, you are not compelled to whatch the full film, you can try to watch ten minutes a day, it will be easier to concentrate yourself and more pleasant than reading a book

Yes but listening ONLY is very good for your vocabulary in VOST. Like that, when you read or heard a new word, check in your dictionnary :wink2: I have done it so many times

I'm in the USA for 2 months. I left because my english was very poor. For me it was THE only solution was to leave in an english-speaking country..
In two months my understanding is better, my vocabulary a little more enriched but it takes time!
We never become bilingual because there is always of the vocabulary to be learnt.
Here I am grateful to speak English, to watch tv with the original version of the series, the movies. It is evident that I do not understand everything.
Otherwise, it is simple but it is in true but I learn many vocabulary in children's books. I left as aupair girl..so I have not the choice !
I speak english with my host parents and my new friends from all the world and with others french here (I know it's not good ).
I have 10 months again for improve my language...
Two things help me too : watch english tv with english subtitles and french movies here with english subtitles (for see the translation, I saw Amélie (le destin d'amélie poulain in french) the last week in french, and i saw the english subtitles!
And for read, begin by children's book !
And speak english with your friends..Before leave I did that because it was like a game !
And a last thing, when I don't know a word, I look immediatly in my tiny dictionnary (it is always in my bag)!
ENjoy english !
