Hello,

This is not a good idea to translate word by word, if you want to improve your English you should try to make your sentences directly in English, it will avoid some mistakes...

:embarassed:

You can not translate word by word.

For instance, this sentence

"The truly lucky people are the ones who manage to become long-time friends before they realize they are attracted to each other".

If you translate word by word you are not gonna take grammar into account. Word by word translation is a trick to avoid. I got a good examples, how would you translate word by word:

To play with oneself
Here you are, my ID
To put one's face on

Other example more obvious, you tell me

"I bet 1000 £ quid for Italy".

I answer

"Pull the other one, it's got bells on"

You'll see that if you translate a sentence word by word from french to english it won't work.

it's right but my grammar isn't perfect :embarassed:
thanks for all

To play with oneself = :beuh: Se masturber
Here you are, my ID = Voica ma carte d'identite
To put one's face on = Se maquiller

Other example more obvious, you tell me

"I bet 1000 £ quid for Italy".

I answer

"Pull the other one, it's got bells on" = C'est une expression, que je traduirais par "tu deconnes" ou "tu plaisantes" ou "tu n'es pas serieux".
