Yes i already know this, i was just joking, I should not make fun of english beginners since everybody's been a beginner.
Truly sorry if anybody has felt hurt. I won't do that again.

No problem, we forgive you. :wink2:

It's just that sometimes it's really difficult for people to speak in English, even on a forum and so such a remark can hurt...

why the present perfect?

- did you have a yummy lunch?

- no, i didn't.

easy, breezy... don't make complications when you don't need it.  :wink2:

some mistakes : my boyfriend caught her while he was working (or at work) and I kept her (since then). She's fine but I know that it's forbidden to capture these animals.

I understood, but it wasn't right. When you're talking about pets, you have to personalize them. So you can say he or she for a male or female dog or cat or...

To catch is an irregular verb : to catch, caught, caught.
You didn't need to use the present perfect in that sentence.

And, "forgiven" means "pardonné" in french, and that's an irregular verb too : To forgive, forgave, forgiven.
So, the right verb is To forbid (irregular verb, again) : to forbid, forbid, forbidden.

There you go... Cheers

Hello pouipouinette,

As you told I gave you the link of this subject to speak in English. :wink2:

That's a very good point to speak on this topic to improve your English level.
There is no special subject on this topic, you can just talk about what you want to open a discussion.
You know, a mark is not the reflect of the level of someone in a foreign language, the best thing is to speak with people or at least to write...

So, if you want to talk about something do not hesitate.

I would like to make a standard list of sentence to answer on the phone.

For example :

"She is in a meeting this afternoon"

Could you help me please ?
Further to the quoted message, I prepared a basic list:

- Receiving phone calls:
Good morning, [name of the company], [name/position of the speaker].
Who's speaking? / Who's calling? / Could you give me your name please. (if necessary: Could you spell your name please?)
What can I do for you?
What it is about?
Who would you like to speak to?

- If you are the intermediary:
I'm afraid the line is busy.
He is busy.
He has not yet arrived.
He is not here today.
He is not in the office.
He is at lunch.
He is in a meeting.
He is away on business.
He is on vacation.
He is busy at the moment. Would you mind calling back later?

He will be back at "time".
He will be free/available at "time".

Would you like to leave a message?
Can I take a message?
I will let him know that you have called.
I will pass on the message.

Would you like to call back later?
Would you like him to call you back later?
I will ask him to call you as soon as he is free/he is back....

- To put someone hold on:
would you like to hold on please? / One moment please.
I'm putting you through.
I'll see if he's in.

- Making phone calls:
This is Miss "name" speaking.
I'm calling from "name of the company". (on behalf of "name of the person"...)
Can/could I speak to "name of the person" please? / I would like to speak to "name of the person" please.
Could you put me through someone in the ... Department please?
I'm calling about ...

Can you give him a message?
Would you let him know that I called?
Can you tell me when he will be back? / Do you know when he will be back?
Could you tell me when he will be available?
Would you ask him to call me back?
I'll call back later.

- Concluding the phone calls:
Thank you for calling.
Thank you for the information.
Thank you, goodbye.

- Voice mail:
Good morning, this is...
This is a message to let you know that...
Could you get me a call as soon as you get back?

I hope it will help some of you. :wink2:
