Do you think having a good level in english will help/had help you to find a job/work placement?
Or on the opposite do you think you had problem to find one because you didn t master enough the language?

I think if I couldn t speak english, I would still be looking for a work placement : My boss told me that he chose me because I could speak some english...(this is a strange argument, as this company is in Spain, and I can t speak spanish!)...

A vos stylos! oupsi... hum... Pen time? :arrow2:

In international trade you must speak english !!!!
But if you want you can find a good job without working with foreign countries, but it will be in french companies who only do business in France (like marketing assistant)
Good luck

Generally, speaking fluently english is very helpful.

but in fact, i think that it depends on where do you want to work in the future, and in which field (?). If you want to stay in france and find a french firm, maybe, you won't need english, but i'm not so sure. see, after the globalization, all french firmes nearly have contacts with foreign enterprises.

and you know, if you want to travel or something like dat, it will be useful, even in your life of everyday. see, this afternoon i was with a friend at the mcdo of chatelet, in paris. we were chating and eating, and there were two girls next to us. i think they were russians or coming from an eastern country. well, nevermind... one of the two girls opens her ketchup packet and it squirts onto me. i was a little bit mad (fortunately, i was dressed in black, i let you imagine the same scene if i was dressed in white !!!! ). Well, the girl didn't see what she did, so i first ask her if she speaks english. she said yes, so i explained her what happenned, and she apologized.

as you can see, now, speaking english is very helpful and useful, not only at work.

 :wink2:

I think English is more and more required by companies. Even if you are not asked to be fluent, you will be asked to be able to express yourself in a good english and to be able to understand what people tell you. Also, if you have some professional ambition... it will be necessary.
Moreover, you never know where your life will take you. In a couple or years you may go to work in a foreign country, English will be more than necessary then!

I don t know for you, but I feel so proud when I speak to somebody in english (especially with english speaker) and they understand me.
Last week I spoke to a american guy (my god, what a strong accent!), and we had a long conversation, it was very good (OK the alcohol helped me to speak...).
Yes, in International trade, english is very important, but not enough...Employers ask for more...The more language you speak, the more chance you have to find a job.
Unfortunately I'm a big sh :spam1: in other languages...

Nessscafe, very funny story with the ketchup, bad luck for you! :wink2:

yes, i feel proud too.

with american people, that's easier because you can skip some words (and you nearly can't do that with english people). it's funny to talk with them.

yes, but I learnt english with british people, so for me it's more difficult to understand american...

I would like to add that I can speak english but with a fuc :spam1: strong french accent. :arrow2:
Some people are better than others to reproduce the accent...and I'm not!
Everytime I speak to someone...you can be sure that we are going to speak about my accent
(for british people : "what a looooooooooooovely accent you have, you are french aren't you? I loooooooove this country" :dacc: )
